Forced to be Feral

I think it is very important that the public see and hear what happens to their family cats, kittens when they dump them at a farm or leave them behind at the cottage when summer ends. People seem to think if they leave a cat it will fend for itself or the farmers will take care of it....WRONG... they starve to death, get sick and suffer til they die, a wild animal kills or maims them .If they are left at a farm, the colony already there tries to scare them away, won't let them eat, fights them...if they do get accepted they have parasites, fleas are prone to several illnesses. Females have up to 3 litters of kittens per year, 4- 6 each time for however many years they live. Males fight for females and territory. Adult males often kill male kittens so they will not grow up and be competition. People who have barns or other buildings where there are many cats/kittens and do not spay/neuter deworm, deflea, give fresh water and food daily in clean bowls are only causing overpopulation, illness, inner breeding (which causes birth defects and many illnesses). All cats are domestic they are forced to be feral/wild because humans have deserted, abandoned, neglected or treat them as mouse killing machines instead of the loving, gentle, social animals they are suppose to be. many farmers still treat cats as mouse killing machines, not feeding or giving fresh water( believing wrongly that they only hunt when they are very hungry) they can survive on their own. The truth is they are starving, thirsty, full of worms, fleas and often become ill suffering a terrible prolonged painful time until they finally succumb and die. It is horrible how awful a cats life can be when they are not cared for properly or spayed/neutered. Only the very lucky ferals end up in colonies that are well cared for. I believe we are doing the only positive and proven program to reduce the overpopulation and horrible existences of ferals and forced to be ferals ( abandoned cats, kittens). Cat Care Spay/Neuter Initiative has a trap/ spay/neuter/return program. We help caretakers trap, take cats to Vets. for spay/neuter, they receive a rabies shot and are given flea treatment.
